A
2006 Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey
survey found that
many
New Jersey parents reported knowing a little or just about nothing about t
specific drugs, including:
Steroids: 63%
Ecstasy: 72%
Methamphetamines: 64%
Inhalants: 63%
The same
survey also found that while 83% of New Jersey parents feel that their
opinions are very important when it comes to their child’s decision whether
or not to use drugs, less than a third (30%) responded in kind when asked if
their children's friends are as important in the decision to use drugs and
alcohol. This fact is particularly alarming considering there is an
abundance of studies linking peer influence to substance abuse.
Translation: It is very likely your child knows more about drugs and alcohol
then you do and their greatest source of information is their friends.
GetSmartNJ.com

launched in October 2006 to help New Jersey parents deal with the
realities of substance abuse in our state, and to provide new drug information,
tips for parents, and referral resources.
